The Role

A prestigious Kensington-based family is seeking a highly educated, emotionally intelligent Governess to join their informal but fast-paced household, supporting the academic and personal development of two children aged 7 and 12. While the focus is on these older siblings, occasional care of the youngest child (age 4) is required during holidays or when the full-time nanny is away.

This role is ideal for someone with a polished, discreet presence who thrives in dynamic, high-expectation environments. The successful candidate will be flexible, organised, and capable of thinking ahead—taking initiative without overstepping. With both parents often travelling, the Governess must be confident in proxy parenting, liaising closely with the household PA, and ensuring consistency across the children’s education and routine.

Key Responsibilities

• Collect children from school and manage all after-school responsibilities
• Provide academic guidance, support homework, and liaise with tutors/teachers
• Oversee wardrobe management, school supplies, and calendar coordination
• Arrange and accompany children to extracurriculars, social events, and outings
• Maintain structure while keeping a warm and open rapport with the children
• Take on full care of all three children occasionally (e.g. during holidays or staff absences)
• Coordinate with the household PA on travel logistics, appointments, and schedule changes
• Travel internationally with the family several times per year

About the Children

The children are bright, energetic, and well-mannered, with a strong interest in sports and a close-knit circle of friends. They respond best to calm confidence, emotional sensitivity, and consistent but respectful boundaries. This role is ideal for a Governess who understands the balance of being a role model, mentor, and organiser—while encouraging independence and fun.
