Job Description

  • Location: Kensington, London
  • Salary: £70,000 gross per annum
  • Working Hours: Monday–Friday, 2:00pm–7:00pm (flexibility available)
  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Position: Live-out

The Role

A lovely family based in Kensington is seeking an experienced and engaging Governess to support the education and development of their two children, aged 3 and 5. The family lives approximately 10 minutes from Gloucester Road and High Street Kensington.

The family is highly focused on their children’s education and already has tutors in place at weekends. They are therefore looking for a Governess who can take a longer-term view of the children’s education, working alongside their schools and tutors to ensure consistency and continued progress.

A teaching qualification is strongly preferred, as the successful candidate should be confident planning and delivering age-appropriate learning independently. At this stage, the primary focus will be developing strong literacy and numeracy foundations, while beginning to consider the children’s longer-term educational journey, including future 7+ preparation.

The children are both high-energy, so the Governess should be creative and engaging in her approach, making learning enjoyable while always maintaining a clear educational focus. The 2:00pm start allows time before the children return home to prepare lessons, organise resources and plan activities.

The mother collects the children from school, so no school pick-ups or driving are required. The household is not fully staffed, although a housekeeper is employed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Planning and delivering engaging, age-appropriate educational activities.
  • Developing the children’s literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Supporting and extending learning taking place at school.
  • Acting as the educational link between the children’s schools, tutors and home learning.
  • Monitoring progress and identifying areas requiring additional support or development.
  • Preparing lessons and educational resources before the children return home.
  • Keeping the children stimulated and engaged through creative, educational activities.
  • Taking a longer-term view of their academic development, including future 7+ preparation.
  • Working independently and taking initiative in all educational matters relating to the children.

Requirements

  • Hold a teaching degree or recognised teaching qualification, ideally with classroom experience.
  • Have experience working with children in private homes.
  • Have strong knowledge of early years and primary education.
  • Be confident planning lessons and tutoring independently.
  • Be warm, approachable and engaging while still able to take charge.
  • Be proactive and comfortable working on their own initiative.
  • Understand how to make learning enjoyable for energetic young children.
  • Have a genuine interest in the children’s long-term educational development.
  • Punjabi would be a fantastic bonus, or alternatively Spanish, although neither language is required.

Package

  • Location: Kensington, London
  • Salary: £70,000 gross per annum
  • Working Hours: Monday–Friday, 2:00pm–7:00pm (flexibility available)

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced teacher or Governess looking for a long-term position with a warm, education-focused family in Kensington.
